The book is profusely illustrated with most being in color. This makes the work a valuable recognition tool, an art becoming lost with today's overemphasis on electronics. What would be a good tool would be to incorporate this work in modern bridge electronic systems for easy reference. Although the text is in French, it is quite easy to decipher. The competition for this work is the more famous but prohibitively expensive Jane's Fighting Ships and the US Naval Institute Combat Fleets of the World. However of the three, Flottes de Combat 2008 is certainly the best value for money and most comprehensive.
